My hair is the longest it has ever been – and this is COMPLETELY down to three staple products:
1) Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque to deep condition twice a week
2) Tangle Teezer to easily comb through my hair (no more knotted clumps at the base of my neck!)
3) Moroccanoil Hair Serum to help detangle my hair and keep it healthy, shiny & glossy.
These products work together to keep my hair manageable and tangle-free…so I don’t end up cutting it all off out of frustration!
Although I’m loyal to my tried-and-tested Moroccanoil, I thought it would be interesting to test out two other popular hair serums: (Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment & L’Oreal Eversleek Precious Oil Treatment) and see how they compare.
My hair type: fine strands; highlighted; tangles easily. Rarely heat-style: 1-2 times a month at most.

MoroccanOil, Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment & L’Oreal Eversleek Precious Oil Treatment |
When I use hair serum:
– On wet hair after I shower to detangle
– On dry hair in the morning to add shine & gloss to my hair and make it look healthy
Application technique:
– Pump dime-sized amount on to hand, rub together and apply to the length of hair (below the ears – never near the scalp & roots).
– Divide hair into 2 sections and finger comb through hair, massaging until oil is completely absorbed.
– Reapply as necessary. It’s better to apply in tiny amounts to prevent greasy strands!
On My Hair:
These pictures were taken over the course of a week –
funny how my hair looks different in each set of pictures! I
didn’t use any filters – the color variation is due to changes in lighting – i.e. how cloudy or bright it was outside!
Comparison chart:
General Thoughts:
All these 3 serums contain silicones in them along with natural oils. While some people try to avoid using silicone-based products – I’ve found that the pure hair oils I’ve tested are not as weightless, tangle-free or easily absorbed.
As much as I love the Deep Repair masque from the Macadamia Healing
Oil brand, their Oil treatment was a complete miss for me! It didn’t
detangle my hair or add shine to it…on the plus side, it did make it
feel softer. I’m not sure why this product is so popular – perhaps it
works better on other hair textures? Or maybe it works differently on heat-styled hair? (I usually air-dry mine).
My
heart is still with MoroccanOil, but L’Oreal Eversleek is a great alternative, especially for the price point. The main difference I found
between the two is that the MoroccanOil leaves hair slightly glossier,
and keeps it tangle-free for longer.
Do you use an argan oil hair treatment? Which one is your favorite?
Disclaimer: I purchased the Moroccanoil myself, the Macadamia Oil came in a Glossybox and the Eversleek Precious Oil was sent to me by L’Oreal. As always – when I review a free item, I consider it as if I paid the retail price…and evaluate it objectively. Gifted or not, I blog to share my true feelings and help my readers.
Great review! I use the macadamia nut oil and like it. Though i only use it in wet hair, and then blow dry!
Glad you liked it! I'll definitely give the macadamia nut oil a try when I next blow dry my hair (that would be in a month or two LOL!) – thanks for the tip!
I loved this review. I actually don't use a serum but I will now 🙂 I also have highlighted hair and rarely ever use heat tools
Thank you Shadowy Lady 🙂 I really love how silky and tangle-free my hair is with serum – I just have to apply it once a day and not worry about tangles or frizz 🙂 Hope it works well for you too!
Your hair looks so amazing Ella! Can't wait until my hair grows long again. I've used the Macadamia Oil Treatment and it was just ok. Currently I use the Kerastase Elixir Ultime but not on a regular basis. I can't decided if it's worth the money. I think I need to try the L'Oreal one. Can't beat the price 🙂 Great review!
Thanks Lilly – part of me wants to keep growing my hair to see how long it can get (silly I know LOL!)…but the other part wants to cut it back to shoulder length – it's just what I'm used to!I've tried the Kerastase Cristalliste Serum and it did NOTHING for my hair…but I haven't had the chance to try the Elixir Ultime yet.I would definitely try the L'Oreal serum – it's a bargain and has so many benefits of the Moroccanoil but at a fraction of the price. Also – it has a couple more natural oils in it, so it may be healthier for hair over the long run.
Your hair is so gorgeous! Looks like you have a great routine going on there too. I want to start using an argon or coconut oil treatment too and I always get those tangles at the base of my neck too! I'll give that brush a shot:)
Schnelle – the tangle teezer brush is UNBELIEVABLE! I really don't know how it works so well but it just gets rid of knots within 2-3 strokes! I used to use a wide tooth comb and it would take me SO long to untangle the knots (and strands would get torn too! Not anymore!)
thanks for the review – i have thick hair but it also gets pretty unruly. have considered the serums before but never tried it. i just may now! thanks!xo P
You should definitely give it a try! Most salons sell a small version of the Moroccanoil treatment – a little bit lasts ages anyway – but its an easy way to see if it works with your hair type 🙂
Your reviews are always so good Ella! I love the pictures and the chart, very helpful!I love the deep repair masque, and use it once a week. I've never tried their oil, but I guess I don't need to anymore seeing as it isn't that great! I used to use the Moraccan oil, but it left my hair feeling very heavy. The scent is amazing though, I wish I could bottle that into a perfume! So I gave it to my best friend and she loves it. I swear by Josie Maran Argan oil and recently rediscovered the Fekkai glossing cream. That stuff is brilliant! I like that it's more of a cream/lotion than an oil.
Thanks Noelle – so glad you liked the review…it definitely took a LONG time to put together 🙂 I wanted to make sure I covered ALL my thoughts on the serums LOL!I adore the MoroccanOil scent too – it's SOOOO good! Here are some perfume recs I found (never heard of them so they maybe hard to track down):http://www.basenotes.net/t/262814/moroccanoi
I use an argon oil deep conditioning masque I buy from Sally 's beauty supply as my regular conditioner but I also have an argon oil from the same line that I use as a hot I'll treatment I've in awhile. Both are sulfate free and I've started using a sulfate free shampoo and my hair has been so healthy!!! It has great shine, curl and feels so thick and luxurious. I think we have be similar hair texture so I love seeing what works for you. 🙂
Wow – so glad the sulfate free shampoo made such a difference to your hair! I try to avoid sulfates too (especially when I highlight my hair). I'm currently using something from the L'Oreal Professional line as shampoo – it smells SOO good 🙂 What shampoo do you use – I wanna know 🙂
Love your reviews and the before and after pics! I flat iron my hair daily and they get so dry. I use the FX Moroccan Moisture Healing Argan Oil Spray and it works wonders and it's cheap too!
Glad you liked the pics – I'm always amazed at what a difference the serum makes…it's hard to capture in pics but I tried LOL! Thanks for the FX brand rec – I'll definitely keep an eye out for it 🙂
Great review! I use Morrocanoil every so often to keep my hair from getting frizzy.chloeandisabel.com/boutique/classynfabulous
Thanks! MoroccanOil is such a miracle product – love how it instantly removes frizz!

What a great review, it's helped me out heaps. It's always hard to know what product is what and how well they work. Your hair is so pretty by the way. So glad I've discovered your blog, a new follower here. http://missmel7.blogspot.com.au/
So glad my review was helpful – and thank you for following my blog! Will definitely have a look at yours 🙂
Great review Ella and wow love the colour of your hair! My brothers finacee happens to be Morrocan and has promised to send my a bottle of the oil straight from the tree so I can't wait to try it out.My favorite brush is by Mason Pearson. It so gentle on the hair due to the natural bristles and almost gives my hair a massage when I brush it. I used to be so heavy handed with my hair but since losing a ton of it from stress I treat it with kid gloves now 🙂
Thanks Parveen – it's so funny much more noticeable my highlights are in the sunlight LOL – indoors you can't really tell! Wow – original Argan Oil straight from the source – sounds like it will be amazing!I own a Mason Pearson brush – but I still don't "get" it LOL…whenever I use it, it makes my hair really sleek and shiny BUT it makes my hair stick straight to my scalp…which is only good if I'm doing a ponytail…otherwise I like volume in my roots. I've tried brushing my hair upside down but then it stands straight up 😛
Thanks for sharing the tips.. I have a very thin strands and hopefully theses treatments should improve my hair texture.. Do you have any other suggestions for frizzy hairs? It was lovely knowing you through spark session.LoveShilpiwww.pinkjasminestyling.com
I'm using from Loreal Elvive the Extraordinary Oil for very dry hair. I'm not sure if it actually is the same like the Eversleek. It might be… I really love that product because my hair looks more moisturized and shinier. On top of it it smells incredibly good!! =)jamila-aj.blogspot.com
