Decor Update – house tour!

We’ve been in our home for 10 months now – and it’s slowly coming along. Here’s a quick update on our different projects.

 Entrance room (previous post here):
-I think this room is pretty much done – I just need a couple more cushion covers (to put on the white cushions.) I’ve purchased 2 on etsy, and am just looking for one more (would love something like this).

TV room:
-We used a KARLSTAD loveseat and 2 chaise lounges to create a super-sized seating area. We’re quite pleased with it as it’s super-comfortable and very spacious. The dark brown leather and quilting keep it looking neat despite heavy usage.
-This room majorly needs some wall art, but I can’t decide whether I want one big image or several smaller pieces. I’m considering a Parisian-inspired theme – keeping it feminine to counter-act the dark leather. After purchasing the wall art, I’ll have a better idea what I want to do with regards to the cushions. I think I may need some fuzzy off-white cushions or knit-button ones.
-In keeping with the Parisian theme, I’m thinking of replacing the light fixture with a simple chandelier – sparkly but not garish or too ornate.
-We’ll also need to replace the TV stand – we currently have a floor-to-ceiling unit with lots of storage – but visually, it would be good to scale it down. I’ll take my time with this since I’ll have to figure out where to relocate some of the storage space (especially the kids medicine chest – will probably  move it over to a kitchen cabinet).

Dining area:
-We recently purchased this sideboard from Ikea – It’s the STORNAS buffet. We used to have a bench in this area, but it was always covered with school papers and kids coloring supplies. I’ve now dedicated one cabinet to all the kids supplies, and the other to my paperwork. I plan on getting some baskets for the open middle section, to make it look neater.
-The tin tubs and faux-lemons were purchased on a recent trip to Winners – I find the pops of yellow are so cheerful and uplifting!

Master bedroom (previously posted about here):
– I purchased table lamps and flowers for each bedside table. The lamps are from Winners and the faux-flowers are from Loblaws.
– I think I’ve FINALLY figured out what to do with this room – I want to get all the furniture painted off-white. While I love the blue wall-color, I found that the contrast with the dark brown furniture was bringing me down. Painting the furniture white will make my room feel light and airy while also solving the mis-matched bed frame problem.

Miscellaneous:

– I know I’m super-late to the “Keep Calm” bandwagon – but I don’t care – the print really appeals to me – so I had to get this aqua one for the room divider (between the TV room and playroom)

FUTURE PROJECTS:
-Organize pantry
-Re-organize my walk-in closet
-Get furniture and plants for patio
-Finishing touches on guest room (posted about previously here).

Wow, really nice updates! Those bedside lamps in your Master are super adorable. I also love the black and pink, I bet some black and white stripes (rug? pillows? print? lighting?) would seriously up the Parisian factor!

Oh yes – I am definitely going to try and find some black & white for the TV room – thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Alison – what is it with men and leather couches? This sectional was a compromise for hubby and me – he wanted leather – but I HATE the look of the over-stuffed leather couches, but since this is quilted I don't mind so much…right now it's like having a super-king sized leather bed in the TV room LOL!

Everything looks great! Love the last picture… the saying and the colors. Pretty. I'm always changing something around the house, but at the same time I don't want to do to much since we're looking to buy a house (which I'm finding out is a bit frustrating lol)

I know the feeling about not wanting to do too much because you might move – that's been the story of my life for SO long – this is the first time I feel settled in (for at least 2-3 years I hope!)

I love the family/TV room sofa! That looks so comfy and chic. We will be moving in the next couple of months and the thought of decorating a new home overwhelms me!

Good luck on your move! I understand the overwhelming feeling – I had that A LOT – which is why a lot of our new furniture ended up coming from IKEA…shopping around multiple furniture stores with the kids in tow is NOT easy LOL! It gets really boring REALLY fast…at least Ikea has ice cream to distract them!

Everything looks great! I love the light/comfy feel of the entry room and the couches look fab in the family room- that was such a great idea! The lamps and flowers are beautiful! I am constantly switching things around but we're hoping to buy a home soon so I'm trying not to make too many investments in the mean time.

Thanks for following! I'm glad the previous owners of the house painted the living areas in soothing colors – it was a big selling point for us 🙂
