My Custom Order from eShakti

I don’t wear a lot of dresses – it’s hard for me to find non-sleeveless dresses that are knee-length or longer (my personal comfort zone). I often end up layering with sweaters/tights/leggings to get the coverage I want with off-the-rack dresses. When eShakti contacted me, offering to let me custom-design a dress from their website – I thought this would be a great opportunity to find a dress that I could wear on its own.

Different options offered by eShakti

After browsing the numerous dress styles on their website, I decided on the Victoria dress in Cream. The style reminded me of a J.Crew dress I had admired – and since this was made in cotton, it seemed perfect for summer.

I entered all my measurements on the order form, along with 2 custom modifications: added cap sleeves and below-the-knee length. Two weeks after placing my order, my dress arrived from eShakti’s factory in India.

Worn with Old Navy Wedges (mine were from 2012, this year’s version here)

Worn as a skirt:

Worn with Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals

PROS:
– Really good material and workmanship. The dress is made of a thick cotton that feels soft and stays smooth.
– Because it’s based on my actual measurements, it fits me perfectly
– The flared silhouette is not my usual style – but I think I like it!

CONS:
– The dress comes with a sash that can be tied at the back or front. I wish there was a custom option to remove the sash because the dress already comes with elastic smocking in the back.
– Although I requested the longer-length dress, I’m not sure it suits my figure – I worry that it makes my legs look stumpy!

MY THOUGHTS:

Getting something custom tailored is a commitment. On one hand, you’re getting something that will fit you perfectly. However, unlike off-the-rack clothes, you’ll have no idea how the dress will suit you until it arrives on your doorstep.

If you’re good at visualizing what you want, eShakti is definitely worth considering!

Have you ever had something custom tailored?

DISCLAIMER: The dress was sent to me by eShakti, but I am under no obligation to provide a favorable review.  As you can tell, I wrote my honest unbiased thoughts (as always!!!).

I think you look amazing! The flared skirt style is so divine on women. It's a bit retro, but very flattering and beautiful. This dress is perfect for summer and it seems really versatile. I love it!

Thanks Noelle! A lot of eShakti's dresses are retro-inspired – so it was fun getting to try a different style of clothing 🙂

The dress looks fab, but I think being slightly shorter it would be more flattering 🙂

Lili – you are so right – it would probably look better if it was shorter – although then I'd have to wear it with tights LOL 🙂

I don't think your legs look stumpy AT ALL. The silhouette is gorgeous on you. I am always looking for pieces that don't require extra layering (your comfort zone is pretty much the same as mine!) so I will have to try this out!Sequins&Stilettos

Thanks Skylette – it's always hard to figure out the perfect non-stumpy length LOL! On one hand, I wanted the skirt to be below-the-knee…yet I don't want the hem to be at the widest part of my leg 🙂

Thanks Lindsay – it was fun finding new ways to wear the dress – at first I tried it with a denim jacket but it didn't work out so well…so I tried a buttoned chambray shirt instead 🙂

I think it looks great on you Ella! I had a cape made last year and you're right if you can visualize properly it's a good site. I'm not so great LOL! They contacted me too about a dress and I replied back with questions and never heard back LOL! Oh well!

Too bad you never heard back from eShakti – I'd definitely try contacting them again! I'm not that great at visualizing/designing either…I remember once I custom designed a ring at a store – they followed my instructions perfectly – BUT I hated the end result LOL! Luckily they switched it out for a ready-made ring instead.

Thanks Lindy – I know what you mean – jeans and a top are so much easier for me than finding the right dress!

I think it looks great on you! I had a not-positive experience with customizing – I carefully measured and everything and what they sent did NOT fit at all, SO unflattering!!
