Fall Staples: Distressed Jeans, Burberry-alike trenchcoat & Leopard heels

There are some fall staples that have been on my wishlist for a while: A classic trenchcoat, the perfect pair of distressed jeans and leopard print heels.

Burberry inspired Trench coat
BR Trench Coat, GAP distressed jeans, Target Heels, LV bag, MAC lip pencil in Redd

Let’s start with the jeans – it seems like I’ve been searching for the perfect distressed pair forever. I’ve tried and decided against MANY styles – some were too baggy, others were too raggedy or came in an unflattering light wash. This pair was ordered on impulse from GAP during their 30% off promo – I was SO excited to find that they fit perfectly and were distressed enough without looking ready for the trash can. (My order form has them listed as: 1969 Destructed Real Straight Jeans, however the current ones on the website look slightly different from mine. With the sale + promo I paid around $35).

Merona Melanie Leopard Pump

These leopard pumps are one of the reasons I’m SO happy Target is now in Canada. They are so comfortable and chic – yet they cost less than $30 – what a bargain for such a classic item!

UPDATE:
Quick pic showing 2 ways of wearing the trench: buttoned up and with the lapels open.I’m not as certain about this trench coat as I am about the jeans and pumps. Perhaps because it is a pricier piece (though I purchased mine when BR had a 40% promo code). The color seems prettier in the website picture than in person. Also – while the flare reminds me of Kate Middleton’s Burberry trench, it makes the coat more trendy than classic.

What are your fall staples? Do you think I should keep the Banana Republic Trench?

Thanks Freebird! Definitely check out the GAP – I had tried their jeans years ago and was convinced they didn't suit my body type – but the Real Straight range has changed my mind!

Great finds- those distressed jeans are perfect. I tell myself every year that I'm going to invest in a good timeless trench but never do; probably because it goes from scorching hot to freezing cold in no time. Keep the trench- the flare makes it more feminine than trendy and it's so slight anyway. It's still a classic.

Thanks Schnelle – I'd been looking for a classic trench for ages – I know BR makes the best "mid-range" trench coats, so I had been keeping an eye on their site for a while now 😉

I would keep the trench. Know what you mean about the flare at the bottom, but it's very slight and not trendy. Still very classic! I got one a few years ago at H&M and love it. A great trench will make any outfit feel pulled together.

I love H&M coats – I recently tried on a trench coat there – the fabric was lovely and the fit was perfect. Thanks for reassuring me that my trench is more classic than trendy – it helps hearing other opinions 😉

Yes keep the trench! It's amazing! I love this look from head to toe. Chic, classic, and so polished. Right up my alley! I'm in the market for a pair of distressed skinny jeans too so I might try Gap! I also want a pair of boyfriend jeans. I think Loft makes a pair for petites so that's probably my next buy 🙂 This Fall, I'm all about looking polished. I guess that's how I always want to dress though. Oh and I'm all about finding a wine colored bag, that's also on my wishlist!

Can't wait to see what wine colored bag you pick out – I always adore your bag picks!I was looking for boyfriend & distressed jeans in one, but I gave up because the bagginess of the BF jeans made me look bottom heavy LOL! So I just went for distressed…but let me know if you find a good pair of BF jeans – I love how they contrast with heels and a dressed up top.And you ALWAYS look polished – it's your trademark!

Hi Ella,I came across your post while looking for reviews about the BR flared trench coat. I just bought it, same color as yours. Still debating if I should go with the black? I love it on you, very classic looking and chic (with the flared).

Thanks Claud – I preferred this color over the black because it seemed more classic. But if you think you'd get more use out of the black (especially with evening wear) then I'd go with the black. I'd love to hear what you think of your BR coat!

Love the look you put together. I LOVE Kate Middleton so that coat is just awesome!! Pretty detail at the bottom! I only keep items if I am in love and I know I'll get a lot of use out them – especially pricy BR pieces :)But you look beautiful!!

Thanks Erica – it's quite a dilemna…on one hand, this is the best-fitting/best-quality trench coat I've tried on…but I think I'd prefer one with a straight-cut in a warmer color. And I don't want to accumulate a large collection of trench coats either LOL! But so far, I'm leaning towards keeping it…soon it'll be cold and I'll need to start wearing it.

your hair looks gorgeous! do you mind my asking if you used a curling iron, or a damp-hair-in-bun method?

Thanks! I used Caruso steam curlers (hot rollers). I wrote a post on them a long while ago – am typing on my phone now but will try add in the link later.
