Chanel Black Pearl nail polish and other shopping…

I’ve restricted my make-up buying this year to 3 items (Foundation, Berry lip gloss and Chanel nail polish). When I received a $10 off $50 coupon from the Beauty department at the Bay – I knew it was time to make my first beauty purchase of the year. I ended up getting Black Pearl (Spring 2011) and Rose Confidentiel (Fall 2010).

I’ve already applied Black Pearl – and I LOVE it. It is a silver/teal shade that definitely draws attention to your nails. I thought a silver shade would look harsh against my skin, but there is some surprising warmth to the colour. I applied 3 coats – it looked a little streaky during application, but dried to a rock-hard and smooth consistency. My nails looked like little jewels! I’m very pleased with my first Chanel nail polish and can’t wait to try out the Rose Confidentiel.

While at the mall, I also checked out H&M. I find H&M overwhelming sometimes – I can ALWAYS find at least one thing to buy there – but it takes a lot of time to sort through their selections. I picked up this wheat coloured sweater (on offer from $34.95 down to $15). I like how it is fitted at the shoulders but loose around the sides and waist. It has an empire-waisted seam (not visible on this cellphone pic), so it can be worn as a sweater dress with tights. I also purchased this in grey – which I kind of regret now – I’m trying to streamline my closet – and purchasing the same piece in multiple colours doesn’t fit in with that!

I also tried on this cream-coloured dress in Small. I was drawn in by the “goddess-like” look and the beautiful draping…but of course, I don’t need it – and it would be hard for me to figure out how to wear it. It’s too short for me to wear alone (just my personal preference – I only wear knee-length or longer) – so I’d have to wear it with jeans or leggings. Luckily, they didn’t have it in XS, or it would have come home with me! I still may pick it up to use as a swimsuit cover-up on the beach….

I’ll end this post with some pics from my Valentine’s day…it crept up on me too quickly, so I didn’t get a chance to plan anything. Hubby got me pink roses and chocolates to share with the kiddies.

He also offered to get me the Balenciaga bag I’ve been saving for (he’s very sweet like that!)…but I’m happy waiting for that, as my dream colour is not available in the current collection. We’re going to pick up a LV key holder this weekend instead. My current key holder is a black Prada one that is 12 years old – it’s so old that it looks green now! These are my favourites from the LV website – but I may end up getting the basic canvas one, as I’ve heard that it is the most durable (and I want this new one to last another 12 years!) It’s a shame we didn’t pick it up earlier this month – before the LV price increase!

As for my gift to hubby – it was so last minute – I scrounged around the kitchen and luckily had enough ingredients to make a small batch of cupcakes for him. They’re not beautiful – but they were light and yummy. (I used a modified version of the Magnolia bakery recipe.)

Have you tried Chanel nail polish? Do you like shopping at H&M? What did you do for Valentine’s Day?

That nail polish is gorgeous on you! I like seeing you try things that I'm too afraid of, lol. It makes me feel more emboldened to try them myself.Your hubby is always so thoughtful for your holidays and your cupcakes look scrumptious!

I just picked up Black Pearl at the Bay today! I was totally amazed that I was able to actually find it that easily, it's been out for weeks so I was expecting it to be long gone! I keep thinking that I don't need any more nail polish and then some fun new colour from Chanel sucks me right back in!Best, Lisamarie

I really love Black Pearl – it is such a unique colour – great for manicures AND perdicures. So glad you found a bottle – I was afraid it would be sold out before I got to pick it up 🙂
