I’m so upset with Joe Fresh – and here’s why. FIRST – they design the PERFECT white lace dress…just the right length…with short sleeves…the prettiest lace trimming AND priced at only $49. THEN – they send this dress to various Canadian fashion bloggers – who proceed to share gorgeous outfit pictures on Instagram.

All of this may sound good…then why am I so upset? Because Joe Fresh didn’t make enough of this dress! It was just SOOOOO hard to find, I had friends and family all over Canada looking for it.
When it comes to finding a wishlist item, I’m super-persistent. So I was able to track down the last lace dress at their Queen Street West store. But there was one problem…it was two sizes too big!

You would think that I’d accept my fate and move on. But by now, my search had turned into an obsession. I was determined to make it work…and so I brought it home. With my mother’s expert sewing skills – we slimmed the sleeves and added elastic to shorten the waistline. I also hand-stitched some nips and tucks across the shoulder and neckline to make it look more fitted.
And here is the finished result – a dress I’m SO in love with – maybe all that extra effort made me love it more? But seriously Joe Fresh….next time you design something SO amazing – please make enough to go around?

Ahhh! THIS DRESS! I felt exactly the same way–I saw it far and wide on Instagram, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to find in Canadian stores or even online! I live in a smaller town, so sometimes I can find these magic items just because there isn't as much demand (for example, I was always able to snag pieces from Target's special collaborations when they were here). But this dress… was the one that got away, for me. Congrats on your successful hunt!
Thanks – I know what you mean about the small towns getting magic items – my sister lives somewhere that had full access to the Target collabs too – so I had her keep an eye out for the dress – and it never even made it there either – so frustrating! I hope Joe Fresh order a fresh batch to sell so that everyone gets a fair shot 😉
I'm sooo glad you found it and DIDN'T take my advice and returned the bigger size LOL! Your mom did a fantastic job with the alternations. It looks beautiful on you!
LOL…I even took it to the store, ready to return it thinking…who has time to alter this dress – but when I handed it over I had second thoughts and kept it – it was just meant to be! And I definitely could not have done anything without my mom's talent!
