Bag Review: Rebecca Minkoff Edie Flap Shoulder Bag

Sometimes you buy a bag because you fall in love with its design, other times you pick it because it fulfills a certain gap in your wardrobe. I purchased the Rebecca Minkoff Edie Flap Shoulder Bag because I was looking for a spacious yet chic bag to coordinate with my feminine outfits.

I wanted a nude bag to pair with lighter-coloured outfits, with enough space to fit everything I would need for a day out (wallet/phone/keys plus my mirrorless camera, makeup bag and a small water bottle). My other bigger bags were either bulky or structured and didn’t coordinate well with my dresses and skirts

The YSL college bag looked like a perfect match BUT I couldn’t justify the investment – especially because I wanted a light-coloured bag. Since I would be using it a LOT, I didn’t want to worry about colour-transfer or damage to the bag. When I spotted the Rebecca Minkoff Edie Bag – I knew it would be the perfect choice. I own several Minkoff bags – and they’ve all held up really well, even after heavy use.

As mentioned above, I wanted a spacious day bag to carry everything I need when I head downtown for work events. Along with my essentials, I needed space for a small water bottle and my mirrorless camera – and as you can see below, it all fits! I do have to place my water bottle on its side – so I chose this leakproof version (that also keeps my water ice cold). I purchased this bag in 2019 (this post has been sitting in my drafts for a while!) and although 2020 was a quieter year, I still opted for this bag for special occasions.

Here’s the size in comparison to my Chanel Classic Flap bag and my Gucci Marmont Mini bag. It’s taller than both of them, and has 2 sections inside so it can carry at least twice as much as my other bags!

The Edie bag comes with a long chain strap (similar to the classic Chanel style), so you can adjust the length and carry the bag in various ways. I use it the most with the double chain as a shoulder bag, but its also nice to have the single chain option either hanging down or worn crossbody. I also often leave the chain down and wear it as a clutch. For size/chain length reference, I’m 5’4 and the dimensions of my bag are: 12″W x 7″H x 3.5″D.

The Edie comes in various sizes and designs including clutches, wallet on a chains and backpacks. Mine is the shoulder bag style in LARGE (12″W x 7″H x 3.5″D) – it also comes in MEDIUM (“W x 5.25″H x 2.5″D). Here are some of my other favourite Edie bags:
