Our favorite way to spend our anniversary is to go away on a trip – but with everything that’s happened this year, this didn’t seem like an option. On our actual anniversary in August, we celebrated by ordering takeout for dinner…which didn’t feel very anniversary-ish at all! So when we were invited by Hockley Valley Resort to experience their Date Night Getaway package – it seemed like the perfect opportunity to have a proper anniversary celebration.
Hockley Valley Resort is located near Orangeville, Ontario – although it’s only around an hour from the GTA, it has a totally different atmosphere from Toronto and its suburbs. You immediately feel transported into the countryside as you drive through the tree-lined roads full of dips and valleys. The resort is popular year round – for skiing and snowboarding in the winter and golf in the warmer months. It also has a full service spa and a neighbouring winery – Adamo Estate.
The Date Night Getaway package includes dinner and live music at Adamo Estate followed by one night’s stay at Hockley Valley Resort and a la carte Breakfast. We arrived at the resort at 5pm, and after checking-in and admiring our room (video here) we headed over to the Adamo Estate for our dinner reservation.
The restaurant at Adamo Estate features local wines along with a delicious tasting menu. Neither my husband nor I drink alcohol, but we enjoyed ordering different small plates from the menu to share – here are some of the dishes we tried – focaccia, tagliatelle pomodoro, fried jumbo shrimps and apple pie. Everything tasted so good but the pomodoro sauce was my favourite – it was so flavourful.
After dessert we headed back to the hotel – we were staying in a Premier Resort Room with two queen beds, so we had a ton of space. My favourite feature was the balcony – it had the prettiest view – see below:
The next morning we opted for breakfast in bed – I ordered the yummiest cheese omelette and we had fresh fruit and bagels too.
Checkout was at 11 am – I convinced Hubby to take a quick photo with me (we used a tripod) – and then we explored the neighbouring area (there’s a hiking trail, provincial park and pick-your-own-fruit farms) before driving home. It was the perfect mini-break and we both were grateful for this much-needed getaway.
