This room is going to take a LOT of work – it is very far from where I want it to be, yet at the same time, I don’t have a clear vision of what I want:

Wall colour: Wedgewood Gray by Benjamin Moore |
For starters – the bed doesn’t match the rest of the bedroom furniture. We have a closet, chest of drawers and bedside tables in blackish brown, while the bed is a reddish brown…don’t even ask how this happened!
My options are:
-stain the bed to match the rest of the furniture (but the whole room may end up looking too dark)
-get an upholstered headboard (would need a bedskirt to mask the rest of the bed)
-buy a new bed
Which would you do?
While my guestroom style is cottage/shabby chic, I want a modern “hotel-style” for this room.
-I want new bedding (no more flowery prints!) and a sleek quilted throw for the bottom of the bed.
-I’m not sure if I want a bench at the end of my bed – they are lovely – but not if I keep banging my knee on it!
-I need to get bedside lamps – I’ve always loved the bubble lamps popular in many decor magazines.
-I’m either going to place artwork above the bed, or wallpaper the main wall as a feature wall.
The AFTER pic for this room may be a long while away!
What does your Master bedroom look like? I’d love to see a pic! Also – any and ALL design advice for my bedroom would be very much appreciated 🙂
That's a very pretty wall color. If you aren't looking to spend much $ I would stain it. I've been "decorating" our bedroom since Mr. and I got married, will be 2 yrs next month. It's still work in progress as I can't decide what I want to do with it, especially since I don't want to spend too much $ (I would know what to do with it if I wasn't so cheap lol). I think once we decided to buy a house that will change 🙂
p.s #2 and #3 are my fav's 🙂
Hi Ella, we have the same master bedroom dilemma. We've been in this townhouse for over 2 years now and our master bedroom still looks like we just moved in. Hubby had his bed frame specially customed way before he met me but it's two toned (walnut and maple) so it's really hard to match colors. It would be much easier if we had another bed frame but husband says no. Then again, he says that with the funds that I spent on the Chanel bag we could have done the whole bedroom and more. Whatever. I love pic #2 and #3- #2 is more romantic, while #3 is a more modern and reminds me of a boutique hotel. I'm sure that whichever look you choose will look great, you have great taste 🙂
Lilly – I know what you mean…this is our first permanent place, so it's worth our while to decorate it and make it just the way we want it…when we were renting, we just made do with what we had. I can't wait to see how your girly room turns out – I love your inspiration pics.MMC – Good to know I'm not the only one with the master bedroom dilemna LOL….I feel like I should have a "grown-up" bedroom now that I'm 33 years old…but if it was up to hubby, it would look like a college dorm! Oh – and your Chanel bag is MUCH better than a re-done bedroom, you made the right choice – ha ha!
I'm looking to buy a place & I can't wait to start decorating but it all sounds like such a long process.I would paint the headboard in a highgloss white or off white paint. So that not all the furniture is matchy.
Gorgeous! I cannot wait to see what you do with your master bedroom, I think you are a very talented decorator and have a great eye!
Monica – Decorating is SUCH a long process – sometimes I'm tempted to just give in and buy whatever's easiest…but I'm trying to take my time so that I end up with decor that I truly love.Katherine – you're so sweet…I'm so new to decorating, and I have a hard time visualising what I want – but I'm determined to end up with a pretty space 🙂
I would stain the wood dark on the bed, i dont think it will make the room dark, just have crisp white bedding with a runner to add a pop of colour 🙂 rachinald.blogspot.com 🙂
Thanks rachinald – I think we are going to try stain the bed…or at least, I'm trying to convince hubby to do it LOL – he's pretty good at DIY when he wants to be. Can't wait to go bedding shopping once all the other elements are in place 🙂
Personally i think it looks nice the way it is. There is something very comofrting and welcoming about a home where things dont match too perfectly. After all its a house not a hotel! However if it really bothers you I would simply stain the wood a shade darker. xx
Tali – I know what you mean about things not matching too much…it can make a room look like a furniture showroom (shudder!) and not a house. I just want to get the right balance and have my bedroom finally look like a "grown-up" one 🙂
