What areas do you focus on when you’re doing your makeup? For me, I always aim for bright undereyes and flawless skin – so I ordered some star products from BeautySense.ca to test and review. Here is my BeautySense Haul – for skin prep, I picked out the SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex Eye Cream for Dark Circles, and for makeup I’m testing the Jane Iredale Enlighten Concealer and PurePressed Base with SPF.
PRODUCT REVIEW: SkinCeuticals A.G.E. EYE COMPLEX Eye cream Review
HOW IT WORKS: This eye cream targets dark circles, puffiness and crow’s feet. You can use it all around your eyes – from your undereyes to your brow area. Along with effective ingredients to address skin concerns, the cream also contains optical diffusers to provide immediate radiance to your eye area. A lot of undereye issues are caused by Advanced Glycation End-products (A.G.E.) where sugar molecules bind with collagen and elastin – causing wrinkled skin. This eye cream combines anti-glycation factors such as Blueberry extract, along with firming peptides and other restorative nutrients.
MY THOUGHTS: This eye cream is frequently recommended in skincare forums as one of the most effective products to try – so it has been on my wishlist for a while! I’ve only been using it for 3 weeks but I’ve noticed immediate results. It has addressed my undereye hollowing and made it look “filled in” – probably from the optical diffusers. It’s lightweight yet hydrating and works well under makeup – it leaves my undereyes moisturized but not slippery. With long-term use, I look forward to more tightened and firmed skin under my eyes and brow area.
PRODUCT REVIEW: Jane Iredale Enlighten Concealer Review
HOW IT WORKS: Unlike typical concealers where you look for a shade to match your skin tone – the Enlighten Concealer is a colour corrector that works by neutralizing dark shadows. Since it is cancelling out dark tones, it doesn’t need to precisely match your skin colour to work. You can pick from two shades: medium intense peach or dark intense peach. It also provides skincare benefits – with plant extracts to target puffiness and add brightness, along with Moringa Seed Oil to soothe skin.
MY THOUGHTS: Over time I’ve moved away from traditional concealers to colour correcting ones, as I’ve needed extra help to counter my darker under eyes. To use this concealer, you pat it on with a brush and use your finger to gently blend out the edges. This concealer has quite a thick and balm-like consistency, which helps it stay in place. I picked dark intense peach, as you can see below: it is a vibrant orange colour. When I pat it on to the dark areas under my eyes – it doesn’t look orange at all, as the orange interacts with my dark shadows and I’m left with skin-colour coverage. My under eyes look brighter and I only need a touch of traditional concealer on top as a finishing touch.
PRODUCT REVIEW: Jane Iredale PurePressed Base Review
HOW IT WORKS: Mineral makeup works across all skin types without clogging pores or causing irritation – it provides coverage without aggravating skin issues. This multi-tasking product works as a foundation, concealer and SPF all-in-one. The formula is super gentle on skin and provides a glowing medium-to-full coverage application. It can be applied with a brush or pressed on with their flocked sponge, and set in place with a hydrating spray.
MY THOUGHTS: I’ve been a fan of Jane Iredale PurePressed Base for ages. I first discovered it when I was struggling with cystic acne and I needed coverage that wouldn’t exacerbate my skin issues. I’ve since switched over to liquid foundation, but I wanted to revisit this product. I still love it – and I use it in two ways. On light makeup days, this brushes on easily and provides a glowy finish – but my favourite way to use this is as a setting powder over liquid foundation. I use a damp beauty blender to press the powder all over my skin – and it transforms my foundation into ultra-full coverage. I finish off with setting spray – and my foundation stays in place all day, without any caking! I prefer it over regular setting powders because its finely milled and radiant, and makes my skin look flawless.
