Dressing for Fall & Trench coat hunting…

PTA meeting: I’m really enjoying this H&M elbow-patch shirt – so glad I picked up 2! And I love the combination of icy-blue with the neon yellow necklace.

Shirt & Neon Necklace: H&M, Jeans & Belt: Garage, Wedges: Old Navy, Bag: Louis Vuitton Speedy 25

School Run: It was so cold out this morning – the 3/4 sleeves on my trenchcoat were not cutting it! Still loving my MJ bag for when I’m out with the kiddies – easy to hold little hands and carry backpacks without worrying about my stuff getting in the way!

Coat, Jeans & Flats: Old Navy, Bag: Marc Jacobs Quilted Single, Watch: Michael Kors Rosegold Mini

It’s a bit warmer now so I’ve switched out the trench coat for a bird-print Old Navy scarf. I know I JUST picked up the heart scarf last week – but the bird print one was on sale for $9 – and I love how it coordinates with dark denim. I highly recommend Old Navy viscose scarves – they’re light, fluffy and easy to wear.

Head to toe Old Navy (should I be embarrassed? I’m not!): Bird Scarf, Sweater, Jeans & Flats

Since the 3/4 sleeves of my trench coat leave me feeling cold – I’m on the hunt for a new one. I’m not ready to invest in a Burberry one yet (if ever!)…but in my dreamworld this would be my first choice:

I love the mid-thigh length and the warm-toned color. I haven’t found anything similar in Old Navy/Gap/Banana Republic, so I’m going to look in Zara, H&M and Mexx next.

Speaking of Burberry trench coats – I’ve always loved Kate Middleton’s cashmere trench coat with the frilled hem – so feminine!

Any suggestions on where I could find an affordable version of the first trench coat?

You always look so pulled together and polished! I love your MJ crossbody! I really need some advice on that subject, but I'll post about that on Friday lol…

My trench coat is from T. Babaton (Aritzia) and it was fairly affordable… I think around $250? I really like it and wear it a ton! But I do love Kate Middleton's frilled coat… how cute!xo, alison*elle

I loved how those H&M shirts look on you and so I had to find them – unfortunately they didn't look nearly as good on me as they did on you 🙁

Sorry to hear they didn't work out for you! I find they're a bit boxy but if I wear them buttoned low with a camisole underneath, they fit much better on me.

You are able to get your scarf to fall so beautifully – I fight the bulk of scarves to avoid looking like I have too much going on!I actually have a similar trench from Bebe from a few years ago – it's a 3/4 sleeve though…

Skylette – am going to email you the link to a post on how a j.crew stylist drapes scarves – it makes them hang so much better! I'm going to look in Bebe too – I always walk past that store but they may have something suitable for me – thanks!

Thanks Lilly – I'm trying to put more thought into what I wear. You HAVE to get the Old Navy scarf – you won't believe how soft it is 🙂

I love trench coats, but was never able to find one that fit me just right. Maybe it was the shoulder, or just the proportion. Then 2 years back I magically came across a zara one. and it was the last in my size~ it is a little longer than I wanted, but it worked.Anyway my point is, I hope that you find some luck at zara 🙂

I don't think you should be embarrassed at all in all Old Navy! They've really stepped it up so much lately and I'm loving what they're offering. That bird scarf is great. I wish I could style scarves casually. It's just something I can't figure out.

Ha ha – I'm not embarrassed to shop at Old Navy (it's one of my addictions LOL!) I meant that it could be embarrassing to be dressed head to toe in one brand – since it could show lack of imagination :-)I love wearing scarves – I find them easier to wear than statement necklaces – and they keep me warm too! I will be doing a post on scarves soon – I found the following post & advice really helpful:http://blogs.babble.com/babble-voices/about-love-mara-kofoed/2012/08/30/tips-from-a-j-crew-personal-stylist/#how-to-add-a-scarf-taper-the-endsHow to Add a Scarf – Taper the EndsAlmost all scarves are rectangular. So…BEFORE wrapping around your neck, hold it up by the corner so the ends are tapered, pull the end section tight and then wrap around your neck. This way the ends that hang will end up being tapered instead of short, squared and bulky.

I'm so in love with the first outfit!!! Recently pulled out my trench coat that I about 4yrs ago now from Miss Selfridge, it's quiet girly, in keeping with the above style but without the ruffles at the bottom. I love that Burberry one, sigh…out of my budget.

I just wanted to let you know I found this amazing website http://www.trenchcoatstore.com/ where you can find designer look-a-like trench coats for a fraction of the cost! They ship internationally too! Here's the same trench coat that the Duchess of Cambridge (aka Kate Middleton) wore in Northern Ireland, but in black:http://www.trenchcoatstore.com/dotstyle-black-trench-coatfrill-hem-trench-coat-p-290.htmlThe real Burberry trench coat would have cost $1300, but instead you can get it in black without the Burberry label for $179!!!
