I recently added the Chanel Boy Wallet on Chain in Black Caviar to my bag collection – and I love it!
I previously owned the Chanel Half-Moon Wallet on Chain – but I didn’t use it as much. Although the Half-Moon WOC is more spacious and has a unique shape, unless you’re looking at it up close, it just looks like a plain black bag. The Boy Wallet on Chain has a classic shape, the iconic quilting and a metal CC turnlock – it just feels more Chanel. Can you see what I mean in the comparison photos below?

Here’s a picture of all of my Chanel Wallet on Chain bags together (including my classic tan WOC) – the Boy WOC is definitely more my style than the Half-Moon WOC.
I decided to sell my Chanel Half-Moon WOC to offset the cost of my Chanel Boy WOC. I contacted several local consignment stores – and went with the one that felt the most trustworthy (and got me the best result). For transparency – some places offered to buy my bag outright for C$1000, others offered to consign for C$1600 (after fees). The place I chose had a strong Chanel client base and was able to pay me $2100 (after fees) – so it’s definitely worth it to do your research and consign your bag with the best seller for your type of bag.
SIZE COMPARISON CHANEL BOY WOC AND CHANEL BOY BAG:
Ok now back to my review of the Chanel Boy WOC – here is a size comparison with a classic Chanel Boy bag. They both have a CC lock and a corded frame. While I love the larger Chanel Boy bags – the WOC version is my favorite size – I think it’s so cute in mini form!

But I also love the look of the classic size of the Chanel Boy Bag on my friend Raj – it really suits her:
DIMENSIONS AND WHAT FITS INSIDE:
The dimensions of my Chanel Boy Wallet on Chain are 7.5″W x 5″H x 1.75″D. The chain strap has a 25 inch drop. Here is a picture of what fits inside my bag. I can fit in a large iPhone Pro Max, a cardholder and some makeup – perfect for a night out. If I were to use the card pockets and zipper sections that are built into the bag, I could discard my cardholder and would probably have space to add in my house/car keys too.

USING A BASE SHAPER:
If you want your Chanel Wallet on Chain to be practical – you HAVE to use a base shaper – it makes the bag SO spacious! I’ve owned another Chanel Wallet on Chain for over 10 years and never really used it because it felt tiny – but once I added in a base shaper, it created so much space and made it easy to fit in a large iPhone and to take things in and out of the bag. Here is a link to a popular style of base shaper.
HOW TO STYLE CHANEL BOY WOC:
There are SO many different ways to style a Chanel WOC – you can wear it with the long strap – either on our shoulder or crossbody. You can wrap the strap around the bag flap to get a shoulder length style. You can also double up the chain for a shorter style. Finally, you can wear it as a clutch and even tuck the chain inside.
USING A CHAIN ADJUSTER CLIP TO SHORTEN THE STRAP:
At 25 inches, the Chanel Wallet on Chain strap is quite long on me (I’m 5’4″). Apparently when purchasing a Chanel bag in store, you can request a chain adjuster clip – like the one pictured below. However, this type of clip is also available on Amazon – I’ve linked it here. The clip easily threads through the chain straps and you can tuck the excess inside your bag. In the pic below I’m using the chain adjuster clip to make my bag sit near my hip rather than mid-thigh.

I’m so happy with my latest Chanel Wallet on Chain. I kind of wish I had picked a classic style to begin with – but some things you only learn through experience! I’m glad I was able to switch out my unused bag for something I’m able to use more. I’m linking some of my favourite Wallet on Chain styles below – which is your favourite?
